LiveOps: Live operations.

Running a game after launch with updates, events and offers.

LiveOps, short for live operations, is the work of running a game after launch: content updates, timed events, offers, balance changes and support. Good LiveOps gives players reasons to return.

What LiveOps includes

  • Content updates. New levels, characters, modes or items on a regular schedule.
  • Timed events. Seasonal events, challenges and limited-time offers that give players a reason to return today rather than later.
  • Offers and the store. Bundles, discounts and price tests tuned to how different players behave.
  • Balance and economy changes. Adjusting difficulty, rewards and in-game currencies using what the data shows.
  • Support and community. Answering players, fixing bugs and reading reviews.

How it is measured

Teams watch retention by day, sessions per player and revenue per daily active user (ARPDAU). An event that lifts day 7 retention or ARPDAU without hurting the other is working.

Where it starts

LiveOps is planned before launch. The game needs remote configuration, event tooling and analytics in place, and the soft launch is the time to test them. Our publishing service covers live operations after release.
